Vijaya Bank’s unbeaten run

BANGALORE: Vijaya Bank maintained its unbeaten run in the Prof. N.C. Parappa memorial Trophy State ‘A’ division basketball league, recording its eighth win with a 61-42 verdict against ASC at the Sree Kanteerava stadium courts here on Friday.

Vijaya Bank will now play MEG in its final match to decide the champion.

Earlier, HAL scripted a thrilling 66-65 win over CMP and virtually relegating the Military Cops to the ‘B’ division. Down 31-33, HAL was helped by some fine shooting by the consistent Markesh (31) and the lanky Sachindra (21).

CMP and Ambedkar BC will figure in the ‘B’ division in the next season.

The results: HAL 66 (Markesh 31, Sachindra 21) bt CMP 65 (Nesraj 26, Kabilan 16); Young Orions 54 (Trishul 12) bt Sports Hostel 49 (Praveen Pabndey 19); KSP 56 (Ramakrishna 17, Mahesh 11) bt JSC 43 (Kaushal 13, Minal 12, Ashwin 10); Vijaya Bank 61 (Sanjay Raj 23, Roshan 13) bt ASC 42 (Goutham 10).

Second straight win

Former champion Postal beat South Western Railway (SWR), Hubli 20-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-14, 15-13 for its second straight win in the State Senior ‘A’ division volleyball league at the Sree Kanteerava stadium courts here on Friday.

Jindal Steel Works (JSW), Bellary defeated HMT 25-23, 25-13, 25-22, while in the third match defending champion KSP downed Sports Hostel (Bangalore) 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.

In the women’s league, KSP defeated SAI 25-22, 25-10, 24-26, 25-17, while Mysore Sports Hostel girls proved too good for Vidyanagar Sports School 25-19, 25-11, 25-14.

EIHC routs BCYA

East India Hockey Club routed BEL Colony Youth Association (BCYA) ‘B’ 8-0 in the opening round of the BCYA State-level annual hockey tournament for ‘B’ and ‘C’ division teams at the Dr. Ambedkar stadium grounds, Jalahalli here on Friday.

Chandraprakash (3), Tarun (2), Lar Varzo (2) and Nathan got the goals for the winner.

Shreyas, Spoorthy win

Shreyas Kulkarni of Star TT Club and M.V. Spoorthy of PTTA won the cadet boys’ and cadet girls’ titles respectively in the M.S. Ramaiah memorial State-ranking table tennis championship here on Friday.

Earlier the championship was inaugurated by the sponsor M.R. Seetharam, former MLA, who is annually conducting the event in memory of his father and noted educationist Dr. M.S. Ramaiah. The winners take home gold coins as prizes.

The results: Cadet boys final: Shreyas Kulkarni bt R. Samartha 11-6, 14-12, 5-11,12-10. Semifinals: Shryeas bt G.S. Sanketh 11-4, 11-7, 11-8; Samartha bt Suceth Shenoy 10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 11-5.

Cadet girls final: M.V. Spoorthy bt N. Aishwwarya 6-11, 11-3, 11-6, 12-10. Semifinals: Spoorthy bt S. Anjana 11-6, 11-7, 11-7; Aishwarya bt Medhini Bhat 11-7, 10-12, 14-12, 11-6.

Non-medallist final: B.S. Akshay bt Jagdish 9-11, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9, 11-8. Semifinals: Akshay bt N.B. Vinay 7-11, 11-5, 12-10, 10-12, 11-9; Jagdish bt Aditya 11-4, 11-8, 13-11.

BEML beats KSP

BEML continued its good run defeating KSP 2-1 in the Puttaiah Memorial football tournament at the football stadium here on Friday. Even though both teams are through to the semifinals, BEML’s victory ensured that it topped the Group B with a tally of 12 points. R.C. Prakash and Wilfred scored for BEML while Karthik was successful for KSP.

In another game, Siam Guito scored a brace as BEL downed SAI 2-1. Raj Kiran scored the consolation goal for SAI.

The semifinal between MEG vs. KSP and HAL vs. BEML will be played on November 6 and 7, respectively.

Easy win

Tumkur Zone notched up an easy 10 -wicket victory over Raichur Zone and claimed full points in the KSCA under-16 inter-zonal cricket tournament at NAL grounds here on Friday.

Tumkur, which took a 123 run first innings lead, dismissed its rival for 127 in the second innings and then completed the formalities for its big win in 1.2 overs.

In the other match at Rail Wheel Factory grounds, M.G. Naveen hit 104 with 18 fours and helped Mysore Zone to draw its match with Presiedent’s XI. Replying to President’s XI total of 306, Mysore, which resumed with an overnight total of 10 for no loss, made 294 in 80.2 overs.

The scores: Raichur Zone: 101 and 127 in 46.2 overs (Wasim Soudagar 31, K. Prasanna three for 22) lost to Tumkur Zone: 224 in 61.5 overs and 7 for no loss in 1.2 overs.

President’s XI 306 for five drew with Mysore Zone 294 in 80.2 overs (H.R. Kiran 39, M.G. Naveen 104 , A. Karthika 46 n.o., Daivik Vishwanath four for 90).

Body building team

A seven-member Indian team will participate in the World body building championship scheduled to be held at Dubai from November.2 to 8.

The team: Virender Singh, Ankur Sharma, Daljit Singh, Hiralal, Rahul Bhist, Mukesh Thakurand, Dheeraj Jaiswal. Coach: Sunil Walia; Manager: Bette Gowda.
