Staff Reporter
The Divisional Forest Officer was visiting Obulapuram mining area for inspection
Anantapur: Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial) Kallol Biswas was allegedly threatened by the men of Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), owned by Karnataka Minister G. Janardhana Reddy, when he was visiting the Obulapuram mining area for inspection in D. Hirehal mandal on Friday afternoon.
The men prevented the officials from inspecting the mines and some of them allegedly threatened the forest guards accompanying the official with dire consequences if they returned for inspection of the mining area, Mr. Biswas told The Hindu over phone.
He was forced to return from the mining area. He said that the forest guards were threatened of dire consequences if they returned to the village.
Mr. Biswas said that the henchmen of OMC had created a fear psychosis among the forest guards and in the village.
The DFO had issued notices to the OMC authorities for allegedly violating the mining laws and encroaching upon reserve forest land.
