Air passenger from Kasaragod held

Nedumbassery: Immigration officials at the airport here handed over a passenger to the police on Saturday for allegedly possessing a fake passport soon after he landed from Dubai. Rafeeq of Kasaragod was deported from the UAE on the same charge. He had a fake passport in the name of Abdul Aseed of Mangalore, apart from the original one, the officials said.

Rafiq had gone to Dubai two years ago on a work visa, but was later banned from entering the UAE on being convicted in a criminal case, the officials said. Though he used the original passport at the airport here to board the aircraft, he showed the fake one in Dubai to evade the ban and was deported.

He was handed over to the local police and was booked under the passport Act.
