NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP workers on Saturday protested against the Sheila Dikshit Government’s decision to increase bus fares by holding demonstrations at over 50 places across the Capital.

One of the demonstrations was held near the Akshardham Temple in East Delhi. The protestors also obstructed traffic for a while by sitting on dharna in the middle of the road.

Addressing the demonstrators, Delhi BJP president Prof. O. P. Kohli charged that the Government had taken a number of anti-people steps. “First of all, the State Government ended the subsidy on power. This was followed by an increase in DTC bus fares and now the price of milk has also been hiked. The real face of the Congress, which claimed to be for the common man at the time of elections, has been exposed. ”

Participating in a programme organised near the Andrews Ganj flyover, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra said: “The loss incurred by the DTC could have been reduced by preventing mismanagement and making it more efficient. Putting the burden on the common man in the name of losses is not proper.”
