Congress ex-MLA expelled from party

NIZAMABAD: Former Congress MLA from Jukkal Assembly Constituency (SC reserved) Soudhagar Gangaram was expelled from the party for six years for ‘anti-party activities’.

Basing on the report submitted by the District Congress Committee citing some incidents of Mr. Gangaram’s anti-party activities the Pradesh Congress Committee had reportedly taken the decision to expel the senior leader who was also a former District Congress Committee president from the party. The PCC Disciplinary Committee led by Kantheti Satyanarayana Raju earlier perused the DCC report and recommended the PCC for expulsion.

The expulsion of the former MLA was announced after taking the approval from the AICC general secretary and in-charge for party affairs in the State M. Veerappa Moily, according to sources in the Congress party. It is the second time that Mr. Gangaram has been expelled from the party.

He was expelled from the party in 1994 when he contested the elections as a rebel candidate against the party’s official candidate D. Rajeswar from Jukkal. When the party subsequently lifted the expulsion he became the DCC chief and got elected from the constituency in 2004. Though the party denied the ticket for Mr. Gangaram in 2009 elections his wife Savithri was given the opportunity.

The TDP candidate Hanmanth Shindey defeated her with a big majority. As the party replaced only Gangaram while re-nominating all the sitting MLAs he was at loggerheads with PCC chief D. Srinivas since then.
