THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An 18-member delegation from the Embassy of France would visit the city in the coming week to oversee the institution of a ‘higher education information centre’ to advise and aid students wishing to study in France and to explore the possibility of instituting ‘dual degree’ courses in collaboration with universities in the State. The delegation would be led by Olivier Duchatelle, attaché of university cooperation, Embassy of France, and would include officials in charge of online student visa procedures, scholarship services and online admissions to French universities. The information centre – CampusFrance – would be set up at the Alliance Francaise here in early 2010. This, according to Alliance director Amelie Weigel, would be the new version of the ‘Edu France’ helpdesk that used to function at the Alliance Francaise in the city. Meeting with VCAt a meeting scheduled with Kerala University Vice-Chancellor A. Jayakrishnan next week, the delegation would discuss the willingness of the varsity to enter into collaborative ventures with universities in France. The possibility of offering ‘dual degree’ programmes under the Indo-French Consortium of Universities project would also be discussed, coordinator of CampusFrance India Archana Choudhary said in an e-mail. Dual degree programmes are already being offered in collaboration with Delhi University and with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The delegation would also discuss modalities for providing financial assistance for the reciprocal mobility of students and teachers from both countries. According to sources in the University of Kerala, the delegation is also scheduled to visit the Kariavattom campus and hold discussions with students and research scholars there. The delegation is also likely to interact with academicians and government officials, including those from the Kerala State Higher Education Council.
