Bid to make Delhi hub for high technology industries

Staff Reporter

For the first time after 1982 an industrial policy is being framed for the Capital

DSIIDC is taking the technical expertise of Bureau of Energy Efficiency

‘The Corporation will also help industries of Delhi to avail carbon credits’

NEW DELHI: Pointing out that the new industrial policy of the Delhi Government would be IT-driven, the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation managing director Chetan Sanghi has said that it will permit hi-tech, sophisticated IT and enabled services that will boost revenue collection and deter polluting industries. Mr. Sanghi said the policy was aimed at making Delhi a global hub for clean, high technology industries encouraging eco-friendly knowledge-based industries and generating high amount of revenue. “The policy enjoins that even the existing industries need to be upgraded to make them environment-friendly and create employment for skilled operators. This is for the first time after 1982 that an industrial policy is being framed for the Capital. The vision is to make Delhi a hub of clean, high-technology and skilled economic activities by 2021.”

With energy consumption increasing every year, DSIIDC is taking steps to conserve the resource. It is taking the technical expertise of Bureau of Energy Efficiency to promote all-round energy saving in government, institutional, industrial and household sectors of Delhi.

“A MoU has been signed between DSIIDC and BEE. The Corporation will also help industries of Delhi to avail carbon credits. Promotion of CFL bulbs in households under Bachat Lamp Yojna and adherence to energy conservation building code for all new commercial buildings are some of the strategies which have been formulated by BEE under the action plan to improve energy efficiency,” added Mr. Sanghi. Informing that DSIIDC has now ventured into construction of green buildings, Mr. Sanghi said it has been awarded the contract for construction of the extension of building of the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Hauz Khas in South Delhi, which will be the first green building to be constructed by the organisation. Pointing out that Delhi will be the “Partner State” in this year’s India International Trade Fair-2009 that will be held at Pragati Maidan from November 14 to 27, Mr. Sanghi said the Delhi Pavilion will be managed by DSIIDC on behalf of the Delhi Government.
