Treatment will take six weeks, with each session lasting 30 minutes, says surgeon Clinical studies have shown high success rate in treating neck and back pain, he says VISAKHAPATNAM: Specially imported cervical and lumbar spinal decompression to decrease back and neck pain has been acquired by the Vizag Back and Neck Clinic in Gangapur Layout near Governor’s Bungalow in the city. Announcing this at a media conference here on Sunday, orthopaedic surgeon A. Hari Krishna of the clinic said this was the first time the technology was introduced in north Andhra. The state-of-the-art equipment DRX 9000 and DRX 9000C along with electric stimulators were procured at a cost of about Rs.1 crore from the US. “The equipment is designed to decrease pain by relieving pressure targeting specific disc level in lumbar and cervical spine. Patients with herniated discs, degenerative discs, building discs, radiculopathy or facet syndrome are suitable for this non-surgical, non-invasive pain free treatment. These patients usually suffer from pain, stiffness, tingling and numbness in the extremities with or without radiating pain. However, this new treatment is not a replacement for surgery or a doctor,” he said. He said that the treatment would take six weeks with each session lasting 30 minutes. After each session, cold pack and/or electrical muscle stimulation is applied to relieve muscle spasm, following which patients will be subjected to core strengthening exercise programme. Clinical studies had shown high success rate in treating neck and back pain through the system avoiding surgery, he stated. Doctors Vinay Kumar, Violet and Kavita were also present.
