VISAKHAPATNAM: All the unions in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant have intensified campaign to make the November 4 strike a grand success. With INTUC deciding to take an active part in the strike, the Visakha Steel Workers’ Union – the recognised union of VSP – exuded confidence that it would be total. This is the first strike by the permanent workers demanding wage revision due since 34 months. VSWU has justified the decision to go on strike after rejecting the appeal from the management to withdraw their call. VSWU president D. Adinarayana and general secretary N. Rama Rao are scheduled to hold a series of meetings in various departments on Monday. Visakha Steel Employees’ Congress deputy general secretary N. Ramachandra Rao said since the demand for wage revision was dearer to all the employees, the INTUC had decided to take an active part in the strike. The steel plants under SAIL had observed a near total strike last week to press for wage revision in their respective plants. The employees of VSP blamed the management for delaying wage revision and have appealed to the management to concede their demand for minimum guaranteed benefit of 28 per cent, 78.2 per cent DA merger and wage revision once in five years.
