TIRUNELVELI: A Sub-Inspector of Police and a head constable have been placed under suspension. Police sources said Joseph Chandran of Rajakrishnapuram under Pazhavoor police station limits had applied for passport. When the application was forwarded to the police station concerned for verification, it was found a forgery case had been registered against the applicant. Though this matter was clearly mentioned in the application after verification by the police, Sub-Inspector of Pazhavoor police station Jayaraj gave a clean chit to Joseph Chandran and forwarded the application to the Special Branch Office. When Superintendent of Police Asra Garg came to know about this incident, he recommended to Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range, P. Kannappan that the erring police officer might be placed under suspension. Based on this recommendation, Mr. Jayaraj was suspended. In another incident, Mr. Asra Garg placed under suspension head-constable Umaiyorubhagam of Ambasamudram as he was a member of the ‘gambling gang,’ which used to meet everyday behind the Ambasamudram sub-court.
