MADURAI: Political parties in Kerala irrespective of their differences had come together and were supporting the State Government’s position in the Mullaperiyar dam issue. Likewise, parties here should shed differences and join to fight for the rights of the people of Tamil Nadu, said Thol.Thirumavalavan, Member of Parliament and president, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, on Monday. Addressing a gathering here during the ‘Mullaperiyar vehicle rally to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu,’ he said that the Tamil Nadu Government should clamp a ban on export of food products to Kerala. Mr. Thirumavalavan also condemned the Kerala Government for its non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s order to raise the dam’s water level to 142 feet. The vehicle rally started from Melur near Madurai and went through Uthangudi, Tallakulam, Tiruppalai, Oomachikulam and Alanganallur to reach Batlagundu where a public meeting was organised. On Tuesday, the rally will start from Batlagundu and reach Cumbum covering Periyakulam, Andipatti, Theni and Uthamapalayam. A public meeting is to be held at Cumbum in the night.
