Minister’s convoy obstructed

JAGGAYYAPETA: A row over clearing oil tins kept on road margins led to protest here on Monday. Jaggayyapeta MLA Sriram Rajgopal obstructed the convoy of Home Minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy in support of a trader, who was allegedly manhandled by police on duty.

According to information, the police started clearing the road at Sheik Mohammedpeta here as the Home Minister’s convoy was scheduled to pass through that road. A shopkeeper entered into an argument with police when he was asked to remove the oil cans kept on the road margin. The SI on duty was alleged to have to have manhandled the shopkeeper instigating the protest from traders. The convoy was stopped for a brief spell as the MLA was registering his protest, and took objection to the alleged highhandedness of the police.
