Internet service providers move CCI against DoT
New Delhi: Internet service providers (ISP) have moved the anti-monopoly body Competition Commission of India (CCI) against the Department of Telecom (DoT) for not allowing Web-based telephony service.
“We have filed a petition against DoT with the Competition Commission. Despite Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recommending that ISPs be allowed to offer Internet telephony, DoT has not permitted us to do so,” Internet Service Providers Association of India president Rajesh Chharia said. Internet telephony, which is cheaper to use and, in certain cases, even free of cost, would benefit rural masses among others. — PTI
