NEW DELHI: Soumya Swaminathan maintained her half-point lead after drawing with Russia’s Zoja Severiukhina in the girls’ 11th round of the World junior chess championship at Puerto Madryn, Argentina, on Sunday. With two rounds to go, the ninth-seeded Pune-girl leads with 8.5 points. Kiran Manisha Mohanty (7.5) brightened the prospects of a second medal for the country when she moved into the tied fourth spot after beating Norway’s Katrine Tjolsen. In the open section, where Indians were never in contention for a medal, M.R. Lalith Babu reached 6.5 points. Sergei Zhigalko (Belarus) and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) share the lead with nine points. The results (11th round, involving Indians): Open: B. Adhiban (6) drew with Daniele Vocaturo (Ita, 6.5); M.R. Lalith Babu (6.5) bt Mikhail Zaslavsky (Isr, 5.5); M. Shyam Sundar (6) drew with Emre Can (Tur, 6); Aswin Jayaram (5.5) lost to Ulvi Bajarani (Aze, 6.5); P. Karthikeyan (6.5) bt Martin Ondrus (Svk, 5.5); Pablo Salinas Herrera (Chi, 5.5) drew with Vishnu Prasanna (5.5). Girls: Soumya Swaminathan (8.5) drew with Zoja Severiukhina (Rus, 8); Katrine Tjolsen (Nor, 7) lost to Kiran Manisha Mohanty (7.5); Maria Florencia Fernandez (Arg, 5.5) lost to Padmini Rout (6.5); Melissa Greeff (RSA, 5) lost to Mary Ann Gomes (6); S.
