CHENNAI: Three Tamil Nadu referees — S. Suresh, K. Venkateswaran and K. Senthilkumar — are back in the I-league panel after a fresh fitness test at the Nehru stadium cleared them on Monday. The three had failed to cross certain parameters in the test held in September to prepare a panel of referees and assistant referees for the 132-match I-league. An AIFF spokesman clarified that the fresh test was more in the nature of giving another chance to those who could not make it to the panel last time round. He said the tight match schedule meant there was much demand for referees and assistant referees. “We had to ease this pressure,” he said, adding that the 17 who came through successfully in the latest test would join the 57 referees already in the panel for the I-league.
