THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The possibility of the University of Kerala teaming up with universities in France to offer dual-degree programmes and to start student and teacher exchange programmes were discussed at a meeting a French academic delegation had with Vice-Chancellor A. Jayakrishnan here on Tuesday. Olivier Duchatelle, Attaché for University Cooperation, French Embassy in India, led the seven-member delegation. The team made a presentation on dual-degree Master’s programmes that can be offered under the aegis of the Indo-French Consortium of Universities. The pedagogical content of these courses will be co-designed by designated academic coordinators in the partner universities. The courses will have intercultural modules. The two sides will explore the possibility of starting collaborative research programmes in life sciences, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics, nano-sciences, disaster management, coastal management, geoinformatics, management studies, humanities and languages. The delegation told Dr. Jayakrishnan that the universities in France were ready to collaborate in starting degree, diploma and certificate programmes in French in the university. The members mooted the idea of starting a ‘tutor on campus’ programme for short-term courses in French. The Vice-Chancellor was briefed on the ‘mobility grants’ programme of French universities to enable students and teachers in India to undertake both short- and long-term visits to those institutions. The delegation gave details of the plans to set up an information centre at the Alliance Francaise here on higher education in France. The centre will offer guidance and assistance to students seeking to pursue higher education in France. Some members of the delegation paid a visit to the Karyavattom campus of the university, where they briefed students about the various options for higher education in France and the scholarships offered by the French government and companies for study in that country. Jean Esselinck, Head of Operations, Asia, Campus France, and Archana Chaudhary, Coordinator of Campus France India, were in the delegation.
