Sony’s new range of VAIO
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Sony on Tuesday launched its latest range of VAIO notebooks, including VAIO X, that weigh just 655 grams and is half an inch in thickness, considered to be the slimmest laptop available so far.
While VAIO X is priced at Rs. 65,000, the other new notebooks — VAIO CW — starts at Rs. 37,000 and netbooks at Rs. 27,000.
Addressing a press conference here, Sony India Managing Director Masaru Tamagawa said: “We are planning to invest Rs. 200 crore across all our portfolios in India in marketing this fiscal. We also plan to garner 20 per cent market share in the consumer notebook segment, up from the current 12 per cent, by launching newer products, expanding buyer channels and investing aggressively in marketing.”
Sony also has signed Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor as its brand ambassador for VAIO X and will invest Rs. 15 crore in India to market it. VAIO X was much lighter and thinner than Apple’s Macbook Air, considered to be the slimmest laptop available today, Mr. Tamagawa said.
