“Nano chips will help in diagnosis of diseases”

Staff Reporter

Tiruvannamalai: Real time tomographic diagnosis of human body will become possible with the help of nano chips, said Hiroshi Iwai, professor from Tokyo Institute of Technology.

He was speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of International workshop on ‘Past and future of Integrated Circuit Technologies’ organised by Electron Device Society of Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers Inc (EDS-IEEE) and SKP Engineering College, on Wednesday.

Mr. Iwai said nano chips would improve the performance of computers which would help real time diagnosis and, as a result, facilitate automation of surgeries. While Indian academicians said the country has manpower and Japan has ideas and insisted on collaboration, Mr. Iwai said, “India has ideas and manpower and Japan has experience.”

Chandan Kumar Sarkar, Chair, EDS chapter of IEEE, said bio-censors being developed with the help of nano technology in IIT-Mumbai could even warn of heart attacks. K. Karunanidhi, Chairman of SKP Engineering College, which hosts the two-day workshop, also spoke.

Earlier, while delivering felicitation address at the inaugural session, Mr. Sarkar urged the visiting Japanese professors, Mr. Iwai and S. Oda, to share their expertise and extend technical co-operation by signing Memorandums of Understanding with SKP Engineering College.
