LG focusses on education segment

CHENNAI: LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd. (LGEIL) plans to spend $6 million on business solutions and of which 20 per cent will be spent on the education segment. The company plans enter the education vertical by offering innovative technology productline of IT business solutions, according to R. Manikandan, Business Group Marketing Head, Business Solutions.

The company has entered the B2B segment with the launch of innovative solutions in the last quarter and now it was planning to move into the educational segment by introducing technology products such as PC virtualisation, image projections, network storage and commercial display business solutions. LG aimed to widen its reach by enhancing hubs (schools and colleges) through innovative products such as network monitors, digital signages and E-board.

Mr. Manikandan said the company had launched three innovative business solutions, namely, LG’s Network Monitors, E-board and Touchscreen monitor. Network Monitor offered lower total cost of ownership by sharing a desktop with 11 users thereby reducing electricity and maintenance costs. It would be a solution that could redistribute the unused 90 per cent of a PC’s resources to several users.

Similarly E-board would replace the conventional techniques of disseminating information. It can play all educational content which could be explained by writing on the screen itself.

He said the company planned to sell two lakh units and was expecting Rs. 200 crore of revenue in 2010 through this launch. He said some part of the products would be manufactured at its Greater Noida unit and some would be imported from Korea. He said the Greater Noida plant had a capacity of 1.2 million monitors annually. The Pune plant could produce five lakh monitors annually. Overall, the manufacturing capacity of monitors was 1.7 million units annually, he added.
