PALAKKAD: The State government should continue the procurement of paddy by the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation up to November 30 as harvesting is still on in parts of Chittur, a main paddy area of the district, Dheesheeya Karshaka Samajam general secretary Muthalamthode Mani has said. He said on Wednesday that a delayed monsoon and shortage of water from the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) had caused the delay. Harvesting is only halfway through in Chittur, he said. The corporation had closed procurement in Alathur and Ottappalam taluks last week. There are reports that procurement in Chittur will close by November 10.
