PUDUCHERRY: The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Pondicherry University organised a special lecture on “Potential New HIV/AIDS Therapy” recently. According to a release, professor of Cell Biology, Molecular and Human Genetics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University C.V. Rao spoke on new findings on potentially safe and inexpensive therapy using human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). He said hCG has long been considered only a pregnancy hormone. However, new findings showed that it also has anti-HIV properties in transgenic HIV mouse model and may prevent vertical HIV transmission from mother to foetus .
