CPI(M) criticises lavish spending of public money

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised the Congress government in Puducherry for its lavish spending of public money for entertainment and other purposes.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, CPM Polit Buro member K. Varadarajan said that ostentatious spending of public money by the Congress government was highly condemnable.

It was proof of how serious the Congress government was in implementing austerity measures.

Allocation of spectrum

Criticising the UPA government for not taking any steps to bring out the truth on the allegation of corruption in allocation of spectrum, he said the scope of inquiry should not be limited to questioning of officials.

“It was not appropriate for Union Minister for Telecommunication A. Raja to continue in the office when a serious corruption charge was levelled against his Ministry,” he added.

On the dispute involving Tamil Nadu and Kerala over Mullaperiyar dam issue, the CPM leader said that both the States should abide by the decision of the court.

The Union Government should directly involve in resolving the issue between the two States by holding talks. Both governments should desist from taking any action that would disturb peace, he said.

The party is deeply concerned on the large scale use of money power in elections, he said.
