Anti-Yeddyurappa campaign regretted

Take community legislators into confidence, Chief Minister told

HASSAN: The vice-president of the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, S.S. Patil, has regretted that legislators from the community are behind efforts to dislodge Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa from office.

He recalled that the former Chief Ministers Veerendra Patil, S.R. Bommai and J.H. Patel too were removed by Veerashaiva community legislators. If a similar situation was created, then the community might acquire a poor reputation, he added.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, he said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was trying to end the crisis in the BJP. The mahasabha too was working to ensure that Mr. Yeddyurappa continued to remain Chief Minister. He advised Mr. Yeddyurappa to take all legislators of the community into confidence as well as to change his way of functioning.

Mr. Patil said they had no objection if another Veerashaiva community leader replaced Mr. Yeddyurappa.

No objection

“We have no objection if Jagadish Shettar is made Chief Minister. The mahasabha is normally apolitical, but is interfering now because it has to protect the image of the community,” he said. Mahasabha district president B.K. Chandrakala was present.

Conspiracy suspected

Davangere Staff Correspondent reports:

The Vishwa Veerashaiva Lingayat Ekikarana Parishat has suspected a conspiracy hatched by few non-Lingayat leaders to dislodge Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa from office.

The parishat has called upon all Lingayat MLAs to stand by Mr. Yeddyurappa and fight against such divisive forces.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Umesh Patil, president of the parishat, and S.V. Beeligimutt, secretary-general, said that after a long time, a Lingayat leader had become Chief Minister, but already efforts were on to oust him. They called upon all MLAs from the community not to fall prey to such designs.
