Deep in discussion: Energy Minister K.S. Eshwarappa (centre) at a mass marriage with Shivamurthy Murughaswamy of Murugharajendra Math and Shamanur Shivashankarappa, MLA, in Chitradurga on Thursday. Chitradurga: Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa has called for the ideologies of Kanakadasa, Shankaracharya, Basaveshwara and Ambedkar to be followed by everyone. These leaders worked for the cause of humanity, but were today seen only as leaders of specific communities, he said. Speaking at the monthly mass marriage organised by the Murugha Math here on Thursday, he said that it was unfortunate that people were still being discriminated against based on their caste and community. Hinduism is a liberal religion that propagates equality, he said. Superstition“Some narrow-minded people have been defaming the religion and they are responsible for spreading social evils such as superstitions,” he said, adding that communalism had divided society. Shivamurthy Murughaswamy of the Math expressed his disappointment over how politicians were busy sorting out their differences while the flood-hit people of north Karnataka were in need of rehabilitation. The people were eagerly expecting help from the Government, he said. He said that rehabilitating the people was the responsibility of both the Opposition and ruling parties. Shamanur Shivashankarappa, MLA, was present.
