A(H1N1) death

HASSAN: A 28-year-old man from Bettahalli in Alur taluk died of A(H1N1) influenza in a private hospital on Tuesday. The victim is reported to have contracted the infection while participating in the Dasara festivities in Mysore with five of his friends.

District Surveillance Officer Hemalatha told the The Hindu that the man was brought to Rayara Koppalu Primary Health Centre for treatment and was then admitted to the Alur taluk hospital, where the doctors suspected A(H1N1). Blood samples were sent for tests and he was shifted to a Bangalore hospital on October 11. Although he responded to treatment for five days, his condition deteriorated and he died. He was laid to rest on Thursday in his native village.
