Delhi takes points for first-innings lead

Special Correspondent

BARODA: Umpire Anil Dandekar no-balling off-spinner Yogesh Nagar was the only sore point for Delhi on the fourth day of its drawn Ranji Trophy super league opener against Baroda at the Motibaug stadium on Friday. Delhi heads home with three points from a massive 265-runs first innings lead.

Following on, Baroda managed 233 for four — it was bowled out for 326 in the first innings — when play was called off.

Fast bowler Sumeet Narwal (six for 91) and wicket-keeper Punit Bisht (eight catches) were the other positives for Delhi.

Nagar’s name was already on the BCCI shortlist of domestic players with suspect actions. Asking him to bowl in front of watchful umpires was a gamble by captain Aakash Chopra. The off-spinner was no-balled on 28th delivery in Baroda’s second innings on the final day, becoming the third offender in four days.

Baroda had lost top-order batsmen Connor Williams, Satyajit Parab and Jacob Martin at that stage.

Delhi’s fast bowlers Narwal, Parwinder Awana and Pradeep Sangwan, used in short spells to conserve energy, were in control on a track aiding movement on the fourth day.

Azhar Bilakhia (91) and Rakesh Solanki (69 not out) grafted for runs after the top-order crumbled.
