Embrace new technology, students told

Eleven people felicitated at ANU foundation day celebrations

THAT’S THE SPIRIT! Freedom fighter Prathi Seshaiah gives a war cry while being felicitated by Guntur Range I.G K.R.M Kishore Kumar and Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University at the 33rd Foundation Day celebrations of the University held on Friday.

GUNTUR: Eleven notable people in various fields were felicitated at the 33rd Foundation Day celebrations of Acharya Nagarjuna University held on Friday. They included academicians, social workers, senior journalists and cultural artistes. The other highlight of the programme was presentation of awards to teachers who have presented research papers in international journals.

Earlier, addressing the students, Inspector General of Police, Guntur Range, K.R.M. Kishore Kumar called upon the students to embrace the newer technologies and reap the rewards of rapid industrialization in the area. Mr. Kishore Kumar said that the stretch between Guntur and Vijayawada would soon turn into an industrial hub and asked the students to make full use of the potential. He also lauded the University for embracing the latest technologies and emerging as one of the premier institutes of learning.

New courses

University Vice-Chancellor Y.R. Haragopal Reddy said that the University had embarked on a development path and has started several new courses like engineering and technology, architecture and planning. Two new P.G courses, nano biotechnology and psychology would commence from the next academic year on the university campus, while M.Sc (chemistry) and M.A (English) would commence on the Ongole campus.

Later, ‘purakskarams’ were given away to 11 persons who made notable contributions in their respective fields. They were Vidwan Gogineni Kanakaiah (academics), Ambati Subba Rao (Information), Alla Dasaradharami Reddy (rural development), Potturi Venkateswara Rao (Journalism), Kandru Sivaramakrishna (Medicine), K.P. Ranga Rao (social work), Prathi Seshaiah (freedom fighter), Sk. Khalil (art), K. Rajasikhamani (social work), Kasan Ajith Kumar (Art of Living) and Thota Sylvestar (mimicry). Mimicry artiste Sylvester had the crowd on its feet with some of his popular mimicry performances. The sounds of a moving train, chopper and few hilarious scenes from popular movies were all there as the students lustily cheered the artiste.
