BHUBANESWAR: The Department of Tourism has announced its list of artistes slated to perform in the forthcoming Konark annual festival of Indian classical dances from December 1 o 5 at the open-air theatre at Konark with the world famous Sun temple forming its backdrop. Tourism Minister D.P. Mishra, who reviewed the arrangements of the famous festival here on Thursday, stated that the five-day festival would feature some of the best-known dancers and troupes. Each evening would have two presentations Odissi being the constant segment on all five evenings. While prominent Odissi danseuse Sonal Mansingh would open the festival with her performance, the rest group presentations would be staged by Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar; Kala Vikash Kendra, Cuttack, Odissi Research Centre, Bhubaneswar, and New Delhi-based Ranjana Gauhar and her troupe. Similarly, Bharatanatyam would be staged by the internationally acclaimed V.P. Dhananjayan’s troupe from Chennai and Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, would present Kathak. US-based Mohiniattam artiste Sunanda Nair and Hyderabad-based Kuchipudi exponent Sobha Naidu were invited to present their troupes while Manipuri would be mounted by Babu Singh and his troupe from Imphal. Special packageThe Orissa Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) has announced a special packages for the visitors from Bhubaneswar and Puri. An air-conditioned bus would leave the OTDC campus in Bhubaneswar daily at 2.30 p.m. and would be back there by 10.30 p.m. The visitors would be taken round the Sun temple and the sea beach of Chandrabhaga before attending the dance recitals. They would also be served dinner at the Konark Panth Nivas. Trip costA trip would cost Rs. 330 per person and Rs.235 per person without dinner. Similarly, visitors from Puri would be required to pay Rs. 240 (Rs.145 without dinner) each per trip.
