Protesters march to university office

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Youth Congress workers took out a march to the office of the University of Kerala at Palayam here and staged a dharna demanding that appointments to the university be made through the Public Service Commission. They also urged the university to withdraw the fee hike.

Inaugurating the protest, Youth Congress State president M. Liju alleged that the University of Kerala had become synonymous with corruption and backdoor appointments. He said the fee hike was introduced to fund the construction spree in the university.

A section of the protestors tried to force their way into the office, leading to a tense stand-off with the police. They dispersed after leaders intervened to bring the situation under control.
