Meet on linguistic harmony

BANGALORE: The Kannada Development Authority has organised a weeklong convention on linguistic harmony at Kasaragod and cultural programmes in dance, drama, poetry, films and other sectors in 10 places of Kasaragod district in Kerala, commencing from Saturday.

Announcing the unique programme of the KDA, its chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru said the programmes would be held in Kannada, Tulu, Konkani, Beary and Malayalam, in which the people of coastal region spoke.

He said that there was a need for maintaining harmony between the people, who spoke different languages for their all-round development.

Mr. Chandru said that a film festival on films in all these languages has been organised in the district and an interaction with film directors.

Home Minister V.S. Acharya; Kayyara Kinhanna Rai, writer; Keshavananda Bharati Swamiji of Edaneer Math of Kasaragod; Karunakaran, MP; C.T.Ahmed Ali, Kasargod MLA; Bee Fathima Ibrahim, Kasargod Town Municipality President; T.S.Nagabharana, president, Karnataka Film Academy; and Na. D`Souza, writer, would participate in the programmes.

On impasse

On the Government impasse, Mr. Chandru said that there was no need for removing Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. He said that everyone in the Bharatiya Janata Party should abide by the decision taken by the party central leadership on the present imbroglio.
