Students will cover Chidambaram and Pichavaram They will visit Auroville, go on a heritage walk PUDUCHERRY: A group of 14 persons from Germany are on a week-long tour to Puducherry. The team, consisting of six students, six parents and two officials, arrived in Puducherry on Saturday and will stay on till November 14. This tour is a follow-up of the cultural exchange programme as part of which a group of 20 tsunami-affected students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kalapet had visited Saarland, Germany during September 2008. The German team will visit various parts of Puducherry, Chennai and Chidambaram during the week-long tour. On Sunday, they will visit Auroville and go on a heritage walk around the town, followed by visits to the Sunday market and beach, according to a senior official of the Directorate of School Education. They will be visiting the Vandalur Zoo, Chennai and Mahabalipuram on Monday. An interaction with students of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kalapet and visits to the Chunnambar Boat House, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a home for street children and Pondicherry University have been scheduled later during the week, he added. The team will also take a tour to Chidambaram and Pichavaram, he mentioned. A press release from the directorate said the visiting team was part of the group in Saarland which had contributed Rs. 45 lakh for constructing additional classrooms at the government school.
