Leading the delegation, P. Thangappan, Secretary General, Indo-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industries (IRCCI) will focus on developing Indo-Russia co-operation in the field of arts and education; intensifying inter-university collaboration and promoting Russian language and culture among other issues. “There is a great demand for Russian language and translators in Indian firms and software companies. Hence, we are planning to introduce three months certified course in Periyar Maniammai University, Thanjavur and Rajaji Polytechnic, Salem from the third week of January,” Mr. Thangappan told The Hindu. “After completion of the certified course, we will recommend that they take up the five months diploma course. The syllabus for the diploma course will be finalised by the Indo-Russian Cultural and Friendship Society in association with Russian Cultural Centre,” he said. During their visit, the members will take part in the ‘Russia-India Social Dialogue’ forum organised by the Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, Compatriots Abroad and International Humanitarian Co-operation in Moscow on November 18 and 19. On the first day, there will be a discussion on ‘Promotion of Russian language in India and languages of India in Russia – a pledge of common future.’ Round table discussions have been planned on ‘Russia-India interaction within the framework of integration processes of Eurasia and Asia-Pacific Region. Possibilities, problems and perspectives’, ‘Image of Russia in Indian mass media,’ and Image of India in Russian mass media.” IRCCI executive vice-president R.
