One-stop shop for Delhiites

Special Correspondent

35 government, private services open

NEW DELHI: Saturday was a red letter day for the residents of the Walled City of Shahjahanabad as the services of 35 government departments and agencies reached their doorstep with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurating a Jeevan Citizen Services’ Centre on the first floor of a building at Chitli Quabar near Jama Masjid. It was the 250th such centre to be opened in the Capital.

The new centre would help the residents secure various certificates and forms under one roof. It is expected to put an end to the endless problems faced by them in securing these.

Certificates

The residents will be able to get birth certificates, income certificates and SC/ST/OBC caste certificate at the centre, obtain different forms, file various returns, procure rail and air tickets, and pay electricity, water and MTNL phone bills. The facility of submitting various forms and a number of other services would also be available to them here.

The Chief Minister said a total of 520 Jeeven Centres would be commissioned in Delhi. Addressing the gathering that included Food and Civil Supply Minister Haroon Yusuf and local MLA Shoaib Iqbal, Ms. Dikshit said the aim of these centres was to provide a single window for availing of various government and private services.

Ms. Dikshit said these centres were a one-stop shop for the varied needs of the citizens. The Delhi government has identified 106 government-to-citizen services under its Jeevan Project that would ultimately be provided with ease to the citizens.

Besides, she said, 11 business-to-citizen services — including issuance of movie tickets, bank accounts, direct-to-home recharge and payment of life insurance premium — would also be made available at these centres. The Delhi government, she informed, has selected 3i InfoTech as the implementing partner for the scheme. Ms. Dikshit described the Jeevan Project as start of a silent revolution which would ensure transparency, certainty and accountability in service delivery to both citizens and businesses.
