Patriotic songs, debate mark end of ‘vigilance week’

Number of activities taken up during the week

A skit on corruption staged

BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance Awareness Week, which was inaugurated by Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Mr. Justice I. M. Quddusi on Tuesday, concluded on Saturday with a large number of activities undertaken by the Vigilance Department of the East Coast Railway.

Exhibitions were organised displaying art and paintings, cartoons and slogans relevant to the theme. On the valedictory day, patriotic songs and a debate on the subject ‘Is eradication of corruption impossible in public life?’ were conducted among staff and students.

A skit on corruption was staged by groups from Waltair and Khurda Road Divisions.

Prizes distributed

President of East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation Anita Vohra distributed prizes and certificates to the successful participants. General Manager of East Coast Railway A.K. Vohra released the Vigilance Bulletin on the occasion.

This is the fifth annual issue of the Vigilance Bulletin brought out by the Vigilance Branch of East Coast Railway for information, education and guidance of all fellow railway men.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vohra advised the officers and staff of railway to be transparent and truthful in their day-to-day working and cautioned the officers regarding the common pitfalls and irregularities committed by the officials knowing or unknowingly.

He was of the view that many unpleasant situations arise involving loss to the organisation in terms of money or reputation, or both due to ignorance of rules and procedures.

Attitudinal problems may also lead to apathy and callousness. In order to sustain and build East Coast Railway as a value-driven one, corruption from within is to be fought against.

More than 200 persons participated in different events on the last day. A lot of enthusiasm was shown by the listeners and visitors.

Call for crusade

Mr. Ravindra Kumar Tandon, Senior Deputy General Manager-cum-Chief Vigilance Officer, East Coast Railway co-ordinated the Vigilance Week and proposed a vote of thanks. He urged the railwaymen to participate in the crusade to control, mitigate and finally eradicate temptation, greed and corruption from public life that would go a long way in improving the quality of service to the country.
