14 additional Judges appointed permanent Judges in High Court

New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil has appointed 14 additional Judges permanent Judges of the Madras High Court. They will be sworn in on November 9.
They are: Justices K. Chandru; V. Ramasubramanian; S. Manikumar; A. Selvam; P.R. Shivakumar; G. Rajasuria; T. Sudanthiram; S. Nagamuthu; S. Palanivelu; K.K. Sasidharan; M. Venugopal; V. Periya Karuppiah; R. Subbiah and M. Sathyanarayanan.
The total sanctioned strength of the High Court is 60, with 45 permanent and 15 additional judges. The present strength is 54, of whom 40 are permanent judges. There are now six vacancies.
There is a possibility of the High Court getting its full strength shortly with the High Court having already recommended T. Mathivanan, A.J. Muruganandam, A. Arumugasamy and K.B.K. Vasuki from the subordinate judiciary for being appointed as High Court Judges.
The names are expected to be referred to the Supreme Court collegium soon for approval.
If two more names are recommended, the High Court will get its full strength.
