CPI(ML) opposes relocation of booths

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation on Saturday protested against the Election Commission’s decision to relocate 516 polling booths in Jharkhand for the Assembly polls. It said the longer distances would deter the voters.

Demanding that the move be revoked, the party said in its communication to the EC that relocating the booths from sensitive areas in the name of averting a Maoist threat, would hamper access to the voters.

“Voters will have to travel far from their places of residence to exercise their right to vote. This will create the problem of safe transport of voters… the inconvenience and risk involved in such travel will act as a deterrent for the voter and hamper his or her right to vote,” party central committee member Prabhat Kumar said.
