It will be a potent tool for promoting m-commerce Can incorporate new applications in mobiles NEW DELHI: As India gears up for national roll-out of 3G mobile services across the country early next year, Noida-based Syscom Corporation, one of the leading SIM (subscriber identity module) card manufacturer in the world, is ready with high-capacity cards that will complement the advanced mobile services. And to top it up, its high capacity and secure PKI (public key infrastructures) SIM cards can be used as electronic signature for carrying out transactions. “We manufacture whole range of SIM cards — from 16k to 256k (PKI). We provide SIM cards to all the operators in the country, to the existing ones as well as new entrants. We also supply SIM cards globally, used in delivering 2G as well as 3G services. In fact, the State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is the first to launch its 3G network in India with our state-of-the-art 256k highly secured SIM cards,” Syscom Corporation Managing Director Sanjeev Shriya told The Hindu. Pointing out that due to PKI, a SIM could be used as digital signature for carrying our transactions and also for personal identification purposes, Mr. Shriya said advanced 3G services would be used not just for making calls or exchanging SMS, it would become a potent tool for promoting m-commerce. Similarly, a high-capacity 3G SIM card would also enable incorporation of new applications and advanced tools in mobiles, literally turning a mobile handset into a powerful tool, he added. Syscom Corporation, which at present enjoys almost 50 per cent market share in SIM card business in India and is also a key supplier to leading telecom markets globally, commissioned its new SIM card manufacturing plant (the largest in Southeast Asia) in Noida SEZ with an annual capacity of 30-crore cards. “Our state-of-the art production centre has been audited by the GSM Association and awarded the prestigious Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS) Certification, thanks to our research and design team that ensures that our SIM cards are totally secure. Security has become a key issue in the last few years with boom in mobile subscriber base. A SIM card is the gatekeeper of the network security and ‘signature’ of the customer; and with the convergence of payment and increase in the use of m-commerce applications, the need and demand for security has all the more become significant,” Mr. Shriya added.
