HYDERABAD: GMR Infrastructure (Global) Limited, a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Maldivian Government to upgrade an airport there to international level. The airport is located at Hanimaadhoo in the Upper North Province of the country and 287 km from the national capital Male. According to a GMR official, the company would first undertake feasibility study and submit to the government. The official said after submitting the feasibility report the Maldivian Government would take a decision. The Hanimaadhoo airport, with a runway of 4,000 ft, has been currently handling only about 20 flights a day, according to GMR. Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Rasheed signed on behalf of the Government of Maldives, and P. Sripathy, CEO of Hyderabad International Airport, signed the MoU on behalf of the GMR Group. — PTI
