Steps to eradicate filariasis

MAHABUBNAGAR: To eradicate filariasis, a Mass Drug Administration would be taken up in the district on the 11th of this month, according to Collector K.Damayanthi.

She said that government has declared November 11 as National Filariasis Eradication Day.

Speaking to press persons here on Saturday she said that the State Government was organising Mass Drug Administration programme for eradication of filariasis in 16 districts.

She informed that MDA will be administered to over 33 lakh people in the district for this 11,300 volunteers were appointed and 1130 supervisors were also appointed to supervise the programme. Damayanti requested the people to take anti filariasis drugs to prevent from filariasis. Briefing about the causes and spreading of the disease she said that the filariasis will occur with culex mosquito.

Collector said to eradicate the disease government is distributing free drug on November 11 drug and the children of 2-5 years of age may take one DEC tablet and one Albendozole, 6-14 years age group children has to take two DEC tablets and one Albendozole and further above 15 years age group persons have to take three DEC tablets and one Albendozole.

She also advised the people to not take the drugs on empty stomach. She also advised the pregnant, chronic patients and children below the two years should not take anti filariasis drug.

Cases registered

Collector also informed that there are 643 cases of filariasis registered in the district. The disease prevailed in Narayanpet division and some of the other mandals in the district.

DM&HO Dr.Venkataramana, district malaria officer Sanjiva Reddy and other officials were also present.
