DINDIGUL: Criminal action will be initiated against those who sell polythene bags below 20 microns and recycled plastic bags in the district. Surprise raids would be conducted at frequent intervals, said collector M. Vallalar. Inspecting a surprise raid conducted in various shops in Dindigul by the pollution control board and municipal officials on Friday, he said that recycled plastic bags should not be used to pack or store food items. Containers made of used plastics should not be used to stock, transport and pack food items. All plastic items used for packing or transporting food items should be made of virgin plastic only. The team seized 500 kg of plastic bags and other items from wholesale and grocery shops and departmental stores here.
