District-level sports meet for schools commences

RAMANATHAPURAM: The divisional level sports meet for higher and higher secondary, including matriculation schools, began at the Seethakathy-Sethupathy stadium here on Friday.

A large number of students from schools in Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga and Virudhunagar districts took part in the event.

S. Prasad, Divisional Physical Inspector, said that competitions would be conducted in various disciples such as chess, carom, tennis, badminton, cycle race, basketball, silambam, swimming, judo and volleyball.

More than 300 aspirants had come to Ramanathapuram to participate in various events. Many physical directors, qualified referees had also been involved for conducting the meet. Competitions would be conducted in three categories such as under 14, 17 and under 19 years. Winners would be selected for the State meet to be held in different cities from November 10.
