Rejects resignation of Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee chief D. Nagender Says “utmost transparency” was adopted in selection of candidates HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas has advised the leaders who expressed their dissatisfaction over the selection of candidates for the forthcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections to reconcile to the situation and fall in line. Asserting that “utmost transparency” was adopted in the selection of candidates, he said ‘winnability’ was considered as the sole criterion in selection of candidates and the lists were finalised in consultation with Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, MLAs, MPs and other senior leaders. The exercise was initiated by then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the APCC continued it in consultation with all the concerned persons. Tough messageHe admitted that the party would not be in a position to satisfy the aspirations of all and “we have to honour the commitment given to aspirants who stayed out of contest in the previous elections.” Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Mr. Srinivas took an indirect dig at Medchal MLA K. Lakshma Reddy claiming the party took a serious view of the actions of the MLA who tried to “politicise” allotment of tickets in spite of the fact that he was in no way connected with the GHMC polls. “We will not backtrack when it comes to discipline in the party. But, such members are given time for better to dawn on them,” he said. The APCC president said the party would not accept the resignation of Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee chief D. Nagender as the latter put in his papers due the mental agony he underwent on allegations of accepting money. He refused to comment on the criticism of members affiliated to the Y.S. Jagan Yuva Sena that tickets were being sold claiming he would not like to stoop to such a level. “I am bearing all the humiliation, but there is a limit to it,” he said. Responding to queries on the list released by the Praja Rajyam, he said it was different party altogether and it would take its own course of action.
