Govt. treasury looted

Staff Reporter

BHOPAL: Unidentified persons looted about Rs.7 lakh from the government treasury in the naxal-affected Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

“The robbers probably knew the security guards and intoxicated them by giving them some sweets,” said Inspector-General of Police (Balaghat Range) B. R. Muniraju.

The officer, however, ruled out any naxal hand in the incident, calling it a case of “professional robbery”.

“We have rounded up some people for investigation, but anything conclusive can be said only after we are done with it,” he said.

The State unit of the ruling BJP is currently holding a working committee meeting in Balaghat.
