‘Rythu Mahasabha’ gets under way

Bhimavaram: West Bengal Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Ane Sur Rehaman has said BJP, Trinamul Congress and others have joined hands to pull-down the Left Front government from power. However, they were taught a bitter lesson aspeople of West Bengal were solidly behind the State government, he said. The West Bengal Minister was in the town to participate in AP Rythu Mahasabha as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion he said people had reposed confidence in West Bengal government due to various welfare schemes implemented by it for upliftment of people. He said nearly two lakh farmers hadcommitted suicideafter UPA came to power at the Centre. K.Varada Rajan, vice-president of the All-India Kisan Sabha, said the organisation’s meeting would be held in Guntur in January.

Irrigation

S. Malla Reddy vice-president, All-Kisan Sabha accused the State government of miserably failing to provide irrigation water to 8 lakh acres of agricultural lands in West Godavari and provided irrigation to 2 lakh acres only in west district. He said that State government was showing only lip-sympathy towards the the farmers.

The three-day AP Rythu Mahasabha began here on Saturday under the presidentship of Vangala Subbarao, State president of Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham. Mr. Subbarao expressed agony over the living conditions of farmers in the State which were very bad.
