Delhi Government makes it mandatory for all private and public hospitals The Capital reported 29 new dengue cases on Saturday , taking the total so far to 527 NEW DELHI: In an effort to check the spread of dengue fever in the Capital, the Delhi Government has made it mandatory for all public and private hospitals to inform and furnish details of dengue cases in a prescribed format to the State Nodal Officer appointed recently. Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia held a meeting with senior officials of the Health Department on Saturday to review the measures taken to control dengue and also to review the reporting system. “This full-scale meeting of health authorities of public and private hospitals as well as senior health officers will certainly help in checking the dengue menace in the city,” she said. The Capital reported 29 new dengue cases on Saturday, taking the total so far to 527. Nine of these are from outside Delhi. Prof. Walia said the Delhi Government has appointed the nodal officer in pursuance of Delhi High Court orders directing that “every year during the relevant period, steps and activities must be undertaken to ensure that there is no recurrence of dengue fever. It will be the responsibility of the Principal Secretary (Health), Government of Delhi, to monitor and proceed with the aforesaid steps and activities as have been undertaken in 2007.” Prof. Walia said information about the dengue patients would be provided to the nodal officer with immediate effect. Nodal officer replacedMeanwhile, nodal officer Dr. Charan Singh, who was appointed earlier in the week, has been replaced by Dr. Debashish Bhattacharya. “Dr. Singh as nodal officer gave wrong figures to the media causing confusion which is why he was replaced by the Government and Dr. Bhattacharya brought in his place until further orders,” said an official release on Saturday.
