CPI State council meet begins

KHAMMAM: The three-day State council meeting of the CPI was off to a start here on Sunday. Party general secretary A.B. Bardhan took part in the deliberations, thus giving greater political significance to the meet.

Some 145 members of the council took part in the deliberations on the first day and more were expected to join on Monday.

Mr. Bardhan, who gave an overview of the Communist movement the world over, said that the communist parties were back in reckoning in different countries.

He focused on the shift in the economic policies of the UPA and the struggles to be spearheaded by the party to offset their impact on the life of the common man.

The party sources said the council meet would decide its future course of action and discuss various key issues pertaining to the party’s ties with the CPI(M) and the Telugu Desam in the State.

State secretary of the party K. Narayana, who presented the secretary report, explained in detail the factors that contributed to the electoral gains and reverses that were suffered in the last election. Party deputy general secretary S. Sudhakar Reddy, Puvvada Nageswar Rao, MLC, and a host of others took part in the deliberations.

The inaugural session of the State council meet was preceded by the State executive meet.
