CUTTACK: Tension mounted at SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Sunday when relatives and attendants of patients staged a dharana in front of the gynaecology wing of the hospital following death of a patient. The agitators alleging “negligence” in treatment demanded stringent action against a particular doctor. The hospital authorities, however, denied of any negligence in treatment and said if need arises an enquiry would be conducted. Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased have lodged a complaint with the local Malgodown police station. According to the police, one Binita Mohanty, a 25-year-old expectant mother of Bairi village in Jajpur district was admitted to the hospital on October 29. The same day, she went under the scalpel and delivered a girl child. But Binita’s condition did not improve after the surgery and there was massive bleeding. “She had to go for another surgery the same day which also did not help much and she breathed her last early on Sunday morning leaving behind the ten-day-old daughter,” said Binita’s husband Ganesh Mohanty alleging that his wife died due utter negligence by the treating doctor. Soon, other attendants of the patients echoed similar feelings alleging that the particular doctor was not treating patients properly. However, not taking law into their hands, the angry protestors sat on a peaceful dharana in front of the department demanding action against the erring doctor. Binita’s relatives also have filed a police complaint against the doctor.
