Kin of road accident victim stage rasta roko

VIJAYAWADA: The police on Sunday lathicharged the kin of a road accident victim when they staged a rasta roko on NH-5 in front of the Government General Hospital’s new building. In a freak car accident that occurred near Vinayak theatre late on Saturday, 28-year-old Mangalagiri Dasarath, an industrial worker of Kandulapadu village of G. Konduru Mandal, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the GGH along with six others, who sustained injuries in the accident. Dasarath died while undergoing treatment. Family members and friends of Dasarath, with the support of the local branch of MRPS, staged a rasta roko in front of the GGH. Braving rain, they continued agitation demanding stringent action against the car driver and payment of ex gratia. As vehicular traffic came to a standstill, the police resorted to lathicharge.
