Use ‘chitta’ and ‘adangal’ to insure crops: Collector

Special Correspondent

THANJAVUR: Farmers can use their ‘chitta’ and ‘adangal’ given by Village Administrative Officers to insure their crops under National Insurance Scheme for Crops, according to M.S. Shanmugham, Collector.

He said in a press release issued here on Tuesday that though the Government had said that computer ‘chitta’ could also be given for getting the crop insured, it did not insist on getting only computer ‘chittas,’ the Collector clarified.

As farmers who are cultivating lands on tenancy basis have some problems in getting the computerised chitta, they can use the ‘chitta’ and ‘adangal’ given by the VAOs.

The last date for insuring samba crop for non-loanee farmers is December 15, 2009 and for loaness December 31, 2009.
