Introduction of ‘C’Division Hockey League in Kodagu on anvil

Nestle-Kodagu Cup Hockey tournament to be held from November 27 to 29

Eight best teams from Coorg ‘A’ Division Hockey League to participate

Madikeri: The annual Nestle-Kodagu Cup Hockey tournament will be conducted at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre here from November 27 to 29, president of the Coorg Hockey Association (CHA) N.U. Mohan Aiyappa said on Tuesday.

Mr. Aiyappa told presspersons that best eight teams — first eight finishers in the Coorg ‘A’ Division Hockey League — would participate in the event.

Matches

BBC would play Hathur, Pragathi Hoddur will clash with Cooperative Sports Club from Murnad, Forestsiders from Kanur would cross swords with Wanderers Madikeri while Kakotparambu Sports Club would meet Ammathi Sports Club, according to the fixtures drawn, Mr. Aiyappa said.

Communication gap

On being asked as to why semi-final matches were not played at the Coorg ‘A’ Division Hockey league that concluded on Monday, Mr. Aiyappa said the CHA had decided in advance not to have semi-final matches. But owing to certain communication gap a few teams were not informed about it.

The CHA was considering introduction of the ‘C’ Division Hockey League in Kodagu to encourage players in the higher primary and high school category, Mr. Aiyappa added.

Each of the eight teams playing in the Nestle-Kodagu Cup could allow five guest players in the team as has been the practice, he said.

Vikram Belliappa of the Nestle Company, the sponsors, said a sum of Rs. 6 lakh would be spent for the conduct of the tournament.

Bopaiah of the Skanda Coffee, partners of the Nestle, and the secretary of the CHA K.P. Subramani were among others present.
